" The most important activity in the world today—or any day—is the activity of the Christ, divine Truth, in human consciousness, and its effect on daily life. The Christ is the outshining truth that God, good, is All and that man is His image and likeness, as the Bible reveals.

The purpose of Christian Science and of its many church activities is to increase the understanding of the Christ and demonstrate its healing effect among men. For many individuals the purification of thought—the increase of spiritual awareness—may be a new way of life, an upward reach away from a materialistic background. For others the increase will be a deepening and broadening of what is already felt and known.

This increase of spiritual understanding and its evidence in healing is what church work really promotes.

It is important to keep in mind that the real activity is God, divine Truth and Love, expressing Himself; divine Principle, the foundation and source of all right action. Comprehending this spiritual idea inspires us and makes us willing and productive in our church work.

The heart and soul of church work is not the motion. It is the motive. It is the loving purpose that impels one to action. It is the impetus of selfless love, the activity of the Christ, causing the worker to yearn to share with others the good he knows.

Our responsibility as church members is not merely to get the physical work done. It is to keep the Christ, Truth, alive in our own consciousness. It is to love it and live it. This inspires healing and brings it out. "
